Cairo, Nov. 29 (Petra) – President of the Arab Parliament Mohammed bin Ahmed Al-Yamahi said economic cooperation across the Mediterranean is no longer optional but an indispensable necessity, requiring a shift from traditional collaboration to sustainable strategic partnerships based on major development projects.

Al-Yamahi made the remarks in a speech before the Speakers’ Summit of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean (PA-UfM), held at the Egyptian House of Representatives in Cairo. He called for broader avenues for mutual investment, the enhancement of trade, the empowerment of the private sector, and support for production and supply chains on both sides of the Mediterranean. He emphasized that sustainable economic growth is the true foundation of stability and the real guarantee for advancing development and improving life for current and future generations.

He stressed the importance of supporting Arab and international efforts to maintain a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and back reconstruction initiatives, urging the international community to hold Israel accountable for halting its brutal attacks and criminal practices in the West Bank.

Al-Yamahi said genuine security and peace can only be achieved through a just and comprehensive solution, establishing an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
